Fraser, fresh off his Academy Award-winning work on Dune, recognized that the answer lay not in maximum pixel count, but in the deliberate manipulation of resolution, grain, and optical imperfection.

The visual signature of The Batman is defined by high contrast, deep shadows, and an uncompromising noir atmosphere. To achieve this, Fraser selected the ARRI Alexa LF and Alexa Mini LF cameras. The large-format sensor provided the shallow depth of field and spatial separation needed to isolate characters within dense environments. However, pairing a high-resolution 4.5K sensor with ultra-sharp modern optics risked making the dark world of Gotham feel clinical. When processed through the film-out, those deep shadows retained organic micro-contrast rather than digital compression artifacts.
